All diseases start in the gut
"All diseases start in the gut"
A lot of people don't know that up to 80% of the immune system is located in the gut lining. Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride, M.D. with a postgraduate degree in both neurology and human nutrition has done multiple studies on learning disabilities and digestive disorders involving the gut. Dr. Campbell points out the microflora has a huge impact on, "disease prevention, protecting us from invading pathogens, detoxification, facilitating the digestion of food, and the absorption of vitamins and minerals" (Dr. Campbell). Many people have destroyed their gut flora by living unhealthy lives day by day by taking prescriptions, antibiotics, narcotics, synthetic steroids, alcoholism, even air pollution; but most of all just having poor diets, eating processed foods, and sugars. The one thing that people don't know, is what every doctor is prescribing, known as a killing drug, antibiotics. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria in our bodies. The point of antibiotics is to kill everything off, and hopefully, it doesn't come back. People don't realize that killing off that good bacteria is not a good thing. You need those probiotics in your system to help fight off the bad bacteria and keep your body healthy and balanced.
Dr. Campbell pointed us to a study showing that rats that were given antibiotics succumb to mercury poisoning, while those without antibiotics did not. The point of bringing this study up was that she believes it is the same for humans. While we are warned about the mercury in fish and PCB contamination, a healthy gut and immune system should be able to tolerate and fight off the exposure and get the actual health benefits of eating the fish.
Another big study that Dr. Campbell studied was mothers that were on the pill, on antibiotics, or had an unhealthy diet for long periods of time developed an abnormal gut flora and even passed it on to their children during pregnancy. She believes that this has led to an epidemic of eczema and autism, noting that "20 years ago autism rate was 1 in 10,000 children and today is 1 in 88" (Dr. Campbell). When children have had their mother's unhealthy gut passed down to them, they develop all sorts of problems and are once again treated with antibiotics. All this is doing to the system, is creating more and more problems. As the gut lining has more damage, it becomes what we know and call "leaky gut," and allows all undigested food to enter into the bloodstream and creates a lot more food allergies. As these kids' systems become more damaged, they are subjected to multiple vaccines specifically made for children with healthy immunity. But because they suffer from impaired immune systems, these kids suffer from both "mental and developmental disabilities," going on to say, "it can also lead to a variety of auto-immune conditions in which the immune system produces antibodies to attack its own tissues.... type one diabetes, she says, the pancreas is attacked, in celiac disease the small intestine is attacked and in multiple sclerosis and schizophrenia, it is the nervous system" (Dr. Campbell)
Even eating disorders can start with nutritional deficiencies with vegetarianism in young girls, trying to lose weight and have the skinny body they've always dreamed of. These girls, as they shift between vegetarianism and veganism, they start to cut all the healthy fats out of their diets, including Vitamins A and
